TV on the Internet, Episode 3: Pilotpalooza! Part 1

Here's our third episode, and I think we're finally getting the hang of this podcasting thing. This is the first one that is neither too loud nor too quiet throughout. As always, we appreciate your critiques and comments in the comments, so let us know what you think, and be honest. If you're liking what you're hearing and have the time, please review us at iTunes, so we can start climbing the ranks.

We're available on iTunes, or you can check us out at Podcast Alley, Podcast Pickle or the TV on the Internet libsyn page.

This week, we review Southland, and I have some thoughts on some pilot scripts I read. Also, we mourn Guiding Light. Look after the jump for complete details.

Headline Links:

Could My Name Is Earl Jump to Fox? (TV Squad)
CBS Turns Out Guiding Light (The New York Times)
Runway is Cleared for Summer Flight (Washington Post)
Breaking Bad Gets a Good Break: Renewal (Seattle Post-Intelligencer)
NBC Gives Boston Station an Ultimatum on Jay Leno (Los Angeles Times)

The songs this week are "Closing the Doors" and "Tying My Shoes" by Caroline Smith and the Good Night Sleeps. Again, the full album is worth a download on iTunes or Amazon MP3.

Clips are from My Name Is Earl (episode: "Pilot," script by Greg Garcia), Southland (episode: "Pilot," script by Ann Biederman), How I Met Your Mother (episode: "Murtaugh," script by Joe Kelly), Life on Mars (episode: "Life Is a Rock," script by Scott Rosenberg), and Boomtown (episode: "Fearless," script by Graham Yost from a story by Graham Yost and Mykelti Williamson).

Corrections:

--Libby says ER drew 25% of Friends' finale's audience and 16% of Cheers' finale's audience. In reality, it was 24% of the former and 14% of the latter.

--Todd says that John Wells said there were no cop shows set in LA recently in a recent interview. In reality, it was series star Ben McKenzie.

(We'll post more as you make 'em.)

A Podcast Recommendation:

Right now, the Forgotten Classics podcast is going through Uncle Tom's Cabin, which isn't exactly forgotten, but most of the time, they bring back some awesome older books that have unjustly slipped out of time and memory and into the public domain.

I'm enjoying this podcast, but the quality of the audio is just barely listenable. The levels are low enough that I often can't hear you when I'm on the subway, even with the volume at 100%. You should really consider investing in a few decent mics and a pre-amp. You might also try running the show through The Levelator.

Chris, thanks for your comments. We'll definitely use The Levelator this week.

Our problem is that we pretty much are stuck with the mic we bought for $20 until the economy gets better and/or OUR PERSONAL economy gets better. So we're trying every workaround we can find. Our first week, the whole thing was too loud and breathe-y, so we probably went too far in the other direction.

Thanks for the tip!
